POV: You’re a teen, just trying to figure it all out, and BAM - feelings. All the feelings. How do you deal with them? Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose! Where else to explore them and learn about yourself, than in an acting class?
In this ongoing class, we teach technique, focus, and confidence - the stuff that gets you the job. We challenge the actor to understand human behaviour. Everyone’s different, it’s not a one-size fits all. We will explore a variety of proven methods to find what works for YOU. Learn the techniques that have helped our young actors land lead roles in film and television.
How we introduce concepts will be modified to fit each particular age group. Materials will be assigned according to each actor’s level of experience. Scenes may involve more mature subject matters.
EMOTIONAL CONNECTION
Learn where the emotions lie in your body, how to access them easily and not force them. We challenge the actor to understand human behaviour - why do people make unexplainable choices in their lives? Teen actors are often asked to play characters who are living with extremely difficult emotions and experiences. Through breath work and body and movement, you will learn to fully embody the character.
SCENE STUDY
Knowing your lines is a good start. Understanding the What and Why of what you're saying is the goal.
To build layers in their scenes and characters, actors will learn to ask the important questions and bring specificity to each choice they make.
What are the choices? How do you make the choice that is uniquely you, that supports the story, that sparks your soul?
This is tough work. We use scripts that reflect the teenage experience at all levels of society. This work ain't for babies. You must be committed.
ON CAMERA ACTING
Less is more and it’s never more true when you are working within a tight frame. Learn how to work comfortably on camera, show relationship, use effective eye-lines, and suggest the character’s world without mime. Find out what happens IN THE ROOM with Casting Directors, and how to own your space!
