They say Improv is the most basic form of acting. You can’t become a professional dancer without learning the basic moves. This is the same with acting and improvised theatre.
Kat will be offering a course that will take you through story development, character, environment, style, voice and scene creation. You will be exploring Improv games to build active listening skills, creative problem solving, and relying on a scene partner. You’ll go through how to create a full character and how to set up an environment. You’ll be learning the building blocks of storytelling and scene creation. You will be learning short form Improv up to 4 minute scenes and long form Improv with up to 30 minute scenes, all made up on the spot.
Improv is a fundamental part of acting because it throws you into the unknown in a safe and extremely fun way. It builds confidence and helps you think on your feet. It is the fundamental building block of acting dating back to the early Elizabethan era and spanning through time. It is also an incredibly beautiful art form that will take your acting to the next level. It’s fun too!
In practical use, Improv is used a lot in commercial auditions and also in film and television auditions and on set. It’s mainly associated with comedy but it is also very useful in creating a fully emotionally charged character in dramatic situations as well. It will transform your acting and your confidence and build skills for everyday life and your acting career.
